The Judges Didn't Have Much of a Debate.
The award for Best Original E30 M3 doesn't go to the most restored car in the room. It goes to the one that never needed restoring. This is that car.
Lachsilber Metallic over Cardinal Red leather, with the original floor mats still down and the black plastic trim under the front bumper still in place. On most surviving E30 M3s, that trim piece is long gone, broken off in a parking lot somewhere, lost during a repair, never quite prioritized. On this one, it's there, 38 years later, right where BMW put it. The A/C blows cold, recently serviced. The headliner is holding. The dashboard has no cracks. The driver's bolster still has its shape. The rear wing is crack-free. One front fender is an OEM DOT-replacement panel, the only deviation from factory in nearly four decades, and the undercarriage is rust-free throughout.
In short, it doesn’t get much better than this.
The Car BMW Built When Horsepower Wasn't the Point
By 2026 standards, 192 horsepower sounds like a footnote. In the context of what this car actually is, it was exactly enough: a purpose-built homologation race car with a naturally aspirated engine, a five-speed manual, a limited-slip differential, rear-wheel drive, and a chassis developed for competition from the beginning. The numbers are just the starting point.

1984
BMW Motorsport begins work on a car with an unusual constraint built into its design brief: Group A regulations require at least 5,000 road-legal units sold within 12 months before the race car can be homologated.
1985
The M3 makes its public debut. The body carries broad wheel arches, a revised C-pillar angle, and plastic bumpers, skirts, and boot lid — not for aesthetics, but because the race car needed them.
1986
Production begins. The engine starts as the standard two-litre four-cylinder, bored to 2.3 litres, fitted with a cylinder head adapted from the BMW M1, and built to handle 10,000 rpm. The M3 goes on sale in Europe.
1987
The racing program launches in the DTM. The road car and the race car have been developed in parallel since the beginning, and it shows.
1988
The M3 arrives in the United States for the first time. The car you're looking at right now is one of them.

Tickets are $25 each with no limit on how many you can purchase. To participate, you need to be an active BMW CCA member in good standing at the time of purchase.
Tickets go on sale October 1st at bmwcca.org/classic-raffle, where you can log in at any time to view your ticket numbers. The drawing takes place at BMW CCA National Headquarters this December, following the close of ticket sales. Proceeds support member-related expenses of the BMW Car Club of America.
The Call Everyone Wants to Get

Proceeds of the Dream Car Raffle are used to offset the program-related expenses of the BMW Car Club of America that might otherwise be borne by our members.
OFFICIAL RAFFLE RULES
- Void where prohibited by law.
- At the time of ticket purchase you must be an active Primary/Associate Member in good standing of the BMW Car Club of America and be at least 18 years of age.
- All checks for the individual entrants must be payable in U.S. funds only. Please do not combine checks for purchases of tickets by primary and associate members. Please do not combine checks for purchase of tickets with membership dues. Checks should be made payable to BMW CCA.
- All taxes, license fees, options, and/or destination and dealer prep fees and all other fees and charges are the responsibility of the winner.
- BMW CCA reserves the right to substitute a cash prize of equal value. Federal taxes will be withheld. If a prize does not include a cash allotment for payment of federal taxes, a certified check made payable to the BMW CCA for required tax withholdings must be received by BMW CCA prior to Winner taking title to the prize.
- Tickets will be issued only to the name listed in our membership file. Prizes will be awarded on same basis. Winning tickets cannot be assigned, transferred, or sold.
- Members of the Board of Directors, paid employees, contractors, and consultants of the BMW CCA, their immediate families and/or household may not participate in the raffle.
- Requests for tickets, sent by mail, must be submitted on the official form. Tickets may also be purchased online at www.bmwcca.org/classic-raffle.
- Account numbers must be written on checks.
- All requests (including checks) received after the official closing of the raffle will not be included in the drawing.
- BMW CCA cannot accept ticket requests over the phone.
- As the only prize offered in the BMW CCA Classic Car Raffle is the car shown, there will be no limit on tickets sold.
- Cars featured and awarded as part of the BMW Car Club of America Classic Raffle have been previously owned and driven. No manufacturer or aftermarket warranty is included with the prize awarded.
