BMW's official South African site has jumped the gun and revealed the full official specs of the upcoming BMW 2-series, according to Worldcarfans. The model will be available in the guise of the 220i, 220d and high performance M235i. In the wake of recent labor strife, and BMW's decision to limit future  investment in the troubled country, this is an unexpectedly bright moment.

While no pictures have been made available, the automaker's official site has indadvertedly launched the 2-series configurator. It gives an summary of all standard and optional equipment as well as interior and exterior color combinations.

Full specs are available, but we'll outline the important information first.

BMW M235i Coupe

Lets start with the top performing model. The M235i will come with the same 3.0-liter turbocharged straight-six engine that also powers it's 1 Series sibling with output rated at 322hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.

This will enable the performance model to hit 62 mph (100 kph) from standstill in 4.8 seconds when fitted the automatic transmission, the manual version will be 0.2 seconds lower. Top speed is electronically limited to 155mph.

Pricing starts at 503,079 South African Rand which equates to roughly $50,000 at current exchange rates.

BMW 220i Coupe

The standard model of the 2-series coupe will make use of the 4-cylinder 2.0-liter unit that produces 181hp and 199 lb-ft of torque. It results in a 0-62 mph time of 7 seconds and a top speed of 146 mph.

Pricing starts at 366,257 South African Rand (around $37,000).

BMW 220d Coupe

The final specs belong to the 220d that houses the 2.0-liter diesel unit producing 181hp (135kW,183PS) and 280 lb-ft of torque. It gives the model a 0-62 mph  time of 7.1 seconds with the automatic transmission and has a top speed of 146mph.
