How do you get BMW to give you a free BMW M6 Convertible customized by BMW Individual?

It’s easy. Step One: Race in the 2015 MotoGP World Championship series. Step Two: Be the best MotoGP qualifier in the 2015 season.

You would think that the top motorcycle racers in the world would want to win a motorcycle, but no; they want the BMW car. Every year the BMW M Division provides the ultimate prize—the BMW M Award—to the top qualifier in the MotoGP world championship series.

“The BMW M Award is one of the highlights of every MotoGP season—every rider wants to be the one to receive this outstanding prize at the end of the year,” said Pau Serracanta, Managing Director of the Commercial department at Dorna Sports as the M6 Convertible BMW M Award car was presented for the first time. “The unveiling of the winner’s car here in Jerez [Spain] has become an important tradition for us. The entire MotoGP family is very excited about it, and BMW M Division has surprised us again this year with a truly breathtaking car. I am certain that this stunning BMW M6 Convertible will be a coveted prize among the riders.”

“We are very proud that the BMW M Award is held in such high esteem within MotoGP,” said Axel Mittler, Head of Cooperation MotoGP at BMW M Division. “This award is also an important part of our long and successful partnership with MotoGP. For this reason, it is very important for us to provide a genuine highlight as the prize each year. For the 2015 season we opted for our new BMW M6 Convertible, which enjoyed its world premiere at the Detroit Auto Show in January.”

The recipient of the 2015 BMW M Award will drive away in the new BMW M6 Convertible, and he can drive away real fast if he chooses. The M6 contains a 560-horsepower M TwinPower Turbo V8, and can run zero to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. Top speed is an electronically limited 155 miles per hour. The M Award M6 will also have a DCT transmission with Drivelogic, Dynamic Damper Control, and an Active M Differential.

The look of the car will be as special as the feel. The award M6 Convertible will be dressed in the exclusive BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Blue Metallic. BMW Individual had its way in the car’s interior, too, with Individual full fine-grain Merino leather in Opal White, and BMW Individual interior trim in Ash Grain White real wood.

2015 will mark the 13th time BMW has presented the award. During the season, riders at each Grand Prix weekend are awarded points based on qualifying position: 25 for the pole, 20 for second fastest, 16 for third fastest, all the way to one point for the 15th fastest qualifier. At the end of the season, the rider with the most qualifying points gets the BMW M Award—the M6 Convertible.

As much as we would like a new M6 Convertible like the BMW M Award car, we would gladly settle for any of the other vehicles with which BMW supports the MotoGP series, such as the BMW M4 Coupé, the BMW M3, and BMW M6 Gran Coupé Safety Cars, the Safety Officer’s BMW M5 or the BMW X5 M and BMW M550d xDrive Touring that are employed as medical cars. We’d even take one of the two BMW S 1000 RRs the company provides as Safety Bikes. That is, if we couldn’t have a new BMW Individual customized M6 Convertible—Scott Blazey
