A BMW-powered sports racer took the overall win at this year’s NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill, an E36 M3 won the EO class, and an E90 328i won the E1 class.

The overall and ESR wins went to the Davidson Racing Norma-BMW sports racer driven by Brian Frisselle, Randy Pobst, Alex Lloyd and Kyle Marcelli. The car had both engine and transmission problems near the end of the race, but held on for the win with a 21-lap margin over the second place car, the ES class winning Porsche GT3 Cup driven by Anthony Ward, Pierre Ehret, Kelly Collins, Tom Hacker, Spencer Trennery and Tommy Sadler.

The E36 M3 driven by Lance Boicelli, Scott Smith, Dale Sievwright and William Brinkop finished first in the EO class, while Brett Strom, Mickey Miller, Ralph Warren and Robert Green finished first in the E1 class in an E90 328i. Miller said, “It was 25 hours of no problems with our BMW. We put gas in it, changed tires, added some oil and changed drivers. It was a perfect race. Other than a little fatigue we had no problems. I have done this race 11 times and I have never had a run like this one. Great win.”

The Norma BMW ran 682 laps for a total of 1910 miles. There were 33 caution periods and one red flag period over the course of the race.—Brian S. Morgan
