Club News
The planning for this year’s Boston Chapter Concours started in the Spring. The chapter budgeted and planned for 115 cars and ended up with 142 participantsa great turn-out! There were 46 members that pre-registered for the event, which really helped speed up the check-in process. An additional 21 cars registered onsite to be judged, which was quite an undertaking for the gate registration crew, considering the time constraints and the 75 walkup entires that registered for the display class.

The key to a large event such as the concours are the volunteers that unselfishly give up a Summer day to help out and make the event run smoothly. The people helping with parking—being overseen, by Michael Mangini and Roy Wicklund—were Andrew Plante in charge of Display Only, Matt Bagedonow, David Scott and Duane Sword at DO, Joaquin Gargoloff, Eduardo McIntosh and Jeffery Devolve at front gate triage. The registration gate was managed by Susan Mangini, Cristina Mangini, Dana Russian, Frank Charmley and John Sullivan. Judging was directed by Dan Mull and helping with judging were Roy Wicklund, Duane Sword, Neal Heffron, Dana Russian, David Scott, Ted Kalman, Sharon Wulf, and Lecia Shroule. Scribes assisting the judges were Joaquin Gargoloff and Clint Gilbert. Pre-registration and scoring was managed by Mitch Brown with Cristina Mangini, and Marcy Venezia who crunched the numbers to determine the winners in each class. Michael Mangini developed a great parking plan by class which included vintage (first and second generation), modern (third and fourth generation), and late current production BMW, MINI, and i cars.

Unbeknownst to the chapter, officials at the Larz Anderson Museum had placed advertisements in both Auto Week magazine and Hemmings Motor News about the event, which brought out additional participants to the lawn. Since the chapter was required to vacate the museum property by 2 p.m., chapter officials had to start judging by 11 a.m. to allow enough time to total the scores, and review the results. Luckily, the weather also cooperated to make this a very successful event for the Boston Chapter.

The chapter would like to thank this year’s title sponsor Wagner BMW of Shrewsbury and Brad Macomber, General Manager, who arranged for three very special display cars to be at the concours. The dealership brought a new M4, an M5, and a M6 Gran Coupé that everyone drooled over.

We would also like to recognize Alvin Lui, Owner Principal of Import AutoWerks, an Independent BMW Repair facility in Braintree for the financial assistance that he provided.
