Trent Hindman, potentially headed for a podium finish in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge race at Virginia International Raceway, pitted from third for a splash of fuel just ten minutes before the end of the race. Then his car stalled exiting the pits, but Hindman recovered to finish fourth in the #46 Fall-Line M3 that he shared with Ashley Freiberg.
The overall and Grand Sport win went to Matt Plumb and Hugh Plumb in the #13 Rum Bum Porsche 911. The Stevenson Camaros of Lawson Aschenbach/Matt Bell and Robin Liddell/Andrew Davis rounded out the podium. Plumb took over with less than two laps remaining when the car that had dominated the race, the Nissan 370Z driven by BJ Zacharias and Brad Jaeger, ran out of fuel. The second place car, the Aston Martin driven by Brett Sandberg and Al Carter, soon ran out of fuel as well. The winning Rum Bum Porsche ran the second half of the race without power steering.
Spencer Pumpelly and Louis Rodriguez Jr. won the ST Class in a Porsche Cayman. The best BMW finisher was the eighteenth-in-class BimmerWorld 328i driver by James Clay and Jason Briedis.
The series runs next at the Circuit of the Americas on September 18.—Brian S. Morgan
