2015 marks the 20th anniversary of BMW CCA Club Racing. So it was an extra special occasion last week at the Oktoberfest Club Racing banquet when Scott and Fran Hughes, the founders of the Club Race program, received the Spirit of Club Racing flag. This flag is presented at each race to the individual who most represents the spirit and philosophy of the Club Racing program.
Scott and Fran started the Club Racing program in April 1995 with 11 racers at Moroso Motorsports Park and lots of dreams. As the impetus behind Club Racing, they helped build the program over the next 20 years into what it is today, one of the premier Club Racing programs in the country. Scott continues to race competitively and both Scott and Fran continue to represent the heart of the Club Racing program.
The banquet topped off the Oktoberfest Club Racing weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park where more than 65 racers competed in Sprint and Enduro events and tested both the Lightning and Thunderbolt courses to their limits. Special thanks to a great group of CR Stewards who volunteer their time and their expertise week after week. And more kudos to the volunteers of the New Jersey Chapter who organized such a great event!—Tricia Williams
