A couple of weeks ago we told you about the one-of-a-kind BMW i8 that was to be auctioned for charity at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The auction was held yesterday, August 16, to commemorate the first BMW i8s delivered to U.S. customers. Jay Leno and BMW of North America CEO Ludwig Willisch presented the 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition.

The sale price of the only 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition that will ever be made, including buyer’s premium, was $825, 000. This was a world auction record price for a BMW i8. Gooding & Company was the auction house of record for the sale. The proceeds will go to the Pebble Beach Company Foundation, which raises funds for Monterey County youth and distributes grants spanning the arts, athletics, environmental sciences, educational organizations, and community programs.

The auction sale price was approximately six times the normal MSRP of a 2014 BMW i8.

The 2014 BMW i8 Concours d’Elegance Edition has a combination of features that will be found on no other BMW. The exterior sports BMW Individual Frozen Grey Metallic paint while the interior is dressed with Dalbergia Brown leather with stitching in BMW i Blue. BMW i Blue is also used for other trim, as well as the seat belts. The words “Concours d’Elegance Edition” are laser etched in the interior and “BMW i8” is embossed into the front headrests.—Scott Blazey
