As an element to mark “90 years of BMW Motorrad”, BMW has revealed the R nineT. It is essentially a cafe racer-style naked bike. It has a tubular steel frame, weighs 489 lbs wet, has a 4.5 gallon tank and 31-inch ride height. ABS is standard fitment.

The 2014 R nineT is powered by a 1170 cc air/oil-cooled twin-cylinder boxer engine that delivers 110 bhp and 88 lbs-feet of torque. The modular frame concept with removable pillion frame and frame end-piece makes it ideal for customization, claims BMW. The suspension has been tweaked with an upside-down telescopic forkfrom the S1000R at the front and paralever with central spring strut at tthe rear. An exhaust system with two silencers and wire-spoke wheels with black rims and hubs add to the look of the bike. Bringing the bike to a hault are radial 4-piston monoblock brake callipers, steel-braided brake lines and floating 12.6-inch brake discs.

Many of the bike's aesthetics have been hand-crafted to give it a plush feel and make a statement that pays homage  to various role models from 90 years of BMW Motorrad. A classic Black storm metallic paint finish with contrasting silver and metallic highlights completes the picture. —Paul Duchene
