Priaulx switches to Team RLL and Werner will run enduros
BMW Motorsport has announced that Maxime Martin and António Félix da Costa will join the marque’s DTM lineup in 2014, replacing Andy Priaulx, who will race for BMW Team RLL in the new TUSC series in the US, and Dirk Werner, who will focus on endurance racing in 2014.
Martin, 27, served as a test driver in DTM in 2013 and partnered with Bill Auberlen in an ALMS Team RLL Z4 GTE. He and Auberlen co-drove the GT-winning car at Long Beach. Martin also campaigned a Marc VDS Z4 in Europe, finishing second and third in the Blancpain Endurance Series in 2012 and 2013, respectively, and co-driving the second-place Marc VDS Z4 in the 2013 running of the Nürburgring 24 Hours.
Twenty-two year-old Félix da Costa comes to DTM from single seat racing. He raced in the Formula 3 Euro Series and GP3 Championship, joining the Red Bull Junior team in 2012. He capped the season with a win in the Formula 3 race in Macau. In 2013 Félix da Costa finished third overall in the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, and also took part in Formula One testing.
BMW’s release came on the day before BMW’s annual season review and motorsport party in Munich; more announcements regarding the 2014 season can be expected after the event. While the other DTM drivers were not mentioned in the release, it is anticipated that Augusto Farfus, Timo Glock, Joey Hand, Bruno Spengler, Martin Tomczyk, and Marco Wittman will remain in DTM, where they will drive the new M4 DTM along with Martin and Félix da Costa.—Brian S.
