The 560-hp 201 BMW M6 convertible and long-awaited U.S. version of Munich’s BMW X1 crossover both make their world debuts at the 2012 New York Auto Show.
The 2013 BMW M6 Convertible deploys the turbocharged V-8 engine and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission from the M6 coupe that allows for 0-60 mph sprints in a claimed 4.3 seconds according to BMW, though some reprts say it's closer to 4 seconds in reality. No word yet on pricing information, but since a 650i convertible retails for $91,395, expect it to top $100,000.
While the M6 will get show-goers to the BMW booth, it’s the X1 they’re more likely to buy. As the X3 crossover has grown in size and risen in price – now at $39,395 for a 2013 BMW X3 xDrive28i – there’s plenty of room in the U.S. market for a smaller version. The smallest BMW crossover will enter U.S. showrooms this summer, and get BMW’s four-cylinder turbocharged engine, which might make for a fun ride if it's tuned for 240 hp, like the 2013 X3 xDrive28i.
The 6 Series Gran Coupe will also make its U.S. show debut and be accompanied by the i3 and i8 concepts.––Paul Duchene
