Two special BMWs are being developed exclusively for the U.S. market. They are based on the 2013 X6 crossover and 6 Series coupe and offer a host of extras at minimal additional cost. Production will be limited, so if you’re interested, you'd better put in your order ASAP.
Pricing will start at $81,695 for the X6 xDrive35i model and $92,895 for the X6 xDrive50i model, including destination. Buyers will get M Performance engine upgrades of an additional 15 horsepower and 30 poundsfeet of torque on the X6 xDrive35i, and 40 horsepower and 30 pounds-feet of torque on the X6 xDrive50i.
The special editions also get BMW’s Premium Package, Cold Weather Package, Technology Package, soft close doors, running boards, five-seat option, XM with one-year subscription, BMW Apps, LED headlights (X6 xDrive50i only), and Premium Sound Package (X6 xDrive50i only).
The cars come in Individual Pearl Silver metallic paint, with 20-inch Y-Spoke wheels, and black chrome exhaust tips. The seats and door panels are upholstered in black Alcantara and with contrasting orange stitching. Additional contrast stitching and piping can be found on the dashboard and floor mats and the dashboard and center console get BMW Individual Carbon Leather trim.
The 6 Series Coupe will offer Frozen Silver Edition, and only 55 of these will be built. Customers can either choose a 650i Coupe, priced at $99,295, or the 650i xDrive Coupe, priced at $102,695. Both prices also include destination.
No power upgrades are present, but buyers do get BMW’s Frozen Silver paint finish, contrasting black mirror caps, 20-inch M Performance wheels, the M Sport Package for the 6-Series and the Executive Package, all as standard. Note, the 650i xDrive Coupe also gets BMW’s cold weather package, which adds a heated steering wheel and ski storage bag.
Other features of the exterior include a sport exhaust system with dark chrome tips, black painted brake calipers, and shadowline trim. Inside, the cars are fitted with an M steering wheel, anthracite Alcantara headliner, custom door sills, a leather dashboard, a power rear sunshade and front ventilated seats.
Delivery of the new BMW special editions will commence in December, just in time for Christmas. Have you been naughty or nice this year? I'd guess either could count.––Paul Duchene
