BMW News

The BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation can be described in many ways. Celebrity pro-am. Professional golf tournament. Charity event. Rock concert. Social event. But from any angle the tournament can be distilled into one statement:  it’s one of the most unique golf tournaments in the world.

Those fortunate enough to participate in the tournament play inside the ropes during a four-day better-ball competition that pairs 168 Web.com Tour professionals with 168 amateurs, including celebrities like Kurt Russell and Oliver Hudson. Before the competition starts, amateurs enjoy three days of unlimited practice rounds at the three tournament courses as well as many other perks.

Now in it’s 14th year, the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation has become a destination tournament for amateurs from all over the world. In fact, in 2013 the amateur field was made up of individuals from 15 states and five countries. After reading this, you’ll understand why so many come to Greenville, South Carolina to play in the event.

GOLF. CELEBRITIES. PARTIES. PROS.

The week starts on Monday, May 12 with practice rounds and ends on Sunday, May 18 when the pro and pro-am champions are crowned. But much happens between those two exciting on-course events.

The tournament is played on a three-course rotation at host courses Thornblade Club, The Reserve at Lake Keowee and Green Valley Country Club. Amateurs get a chance to test out the courses during unlimited practice rounds Monday through Wednesday of tournament week.

Following practice rounds, the tournament’s social events kick off on Wednesday evening with The No Bogeys Reception. During this event, amateurs pick up their gift package and mingle with other tournament contestants and sponsors over drinks and light hors d’oeuvres.

The next morning the unique inside-the-ropes experience begins when amateurs meet their Web.com Tour pro partner. By Saturday the pro-am team will have played one round at each course before the Final Round on Sunday. And it’s all broadcast during primetime on Golf Channel, where the tournament is consistently the highest viewed Web.com Tour event on the network.

But the week is about more than golf. On Thursday, May 15 and Friday, May 16 amateurs and a guest attend phenomenal evening events in downtown Greenville, giving them the chance to relive the excitement of that day’s round and look forward to the competition on the horizon. The events feature live music, great food, a charity auction and attendance by the tournament’s celebrity contestants.

The experience of tournament week will leave you with many memories and the overwhelming urge to do one thing:  reserve your playing spot for the following year.

THE WEB.COM TOUR

Every champion of the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation has gone on to play on the PGA TOUR. So you can see why the Web.com Tour is known as the Path to the PGA TOUR.

It’s not a stop along the way. It’s the way. It’s where Keegan cut his teeth. Where Bubba learned to hit that wedge shot. Where Snedeker found the strength to lift the FedExCup. In fact, three out of four PGA TOUR members are Web.com Tour alumni. Those players have amassed over 370 PGA TOUR wins and 18 major championships.

In 2013 an exciting new era in PGA TOUR Qualifying began with the most significant change ever to how a professional golfer qualifies to play the PGA TOUR. In the new system, the Web.com Tour determines all 50 PGA TOUR Cards available for the next season.

The quest to earn a PGA TOUR card will end in dramatic fashion over the last four events of the season, the Web.com Tour Finals. 150 players. 50 PGA TOUR Cards. One Dream.
