Colin Turkington finishes second in Shanghai
Privateer BMW racer Colin Turkington in his BMW 320 TC finished a strong second in race one when the World Touring Car Championship ran in Shanghai in November.
Turkington kept the pressure on the Chevrolet Cruze of race winner Alain Menu for the final 10 laps of the 25 lap sprint, giving his Weichers-Sport team its best ever finish in WTCC competition. BMW racers Tom Coronel and Kristian Poulsen finished fifth and sixth. (Text continues after photo)
Turkington put on another strong performance in race two, starting second on the grid and running in the top three until he locked his brakes on lap ten to avoid the Chevrolet of Robert Huff. He fell to sixth, but found his way back to fourth at the end of the race, passing Coronel on the final lap. The race two win went to Chevrolet’s Yvan Muller, who extended his points lead over his teammate Robert Huff with one race remaining in the season.
The WTCC season finale will be run in Macau on November 20. Going into Macau, Tom Coronel is fourth in drivers’ points, while BMW is second to Chevrolet in manufacturers’ points.
