Heading for New York soon? Here's a great idea to try out a new BMW 328i for a long weekend, and thanks to Motorauthority for pointing it out.  BMW On Demand USA has a deal for you: rent the car for a three-day weekend, and the company will kick in a fourth day, free.

If that’s not good enough for the bargain hunters among you, BMW On Demand is even throwing in unlimited mileage, in case you're calculating if you can get all the way to Key West and back, in the time alloted.

Renters can choose from Thursday to Monday or Friday to Tuesday options, and the deal is only available to those in the New York metropolitan area. BMW On Demands is calling it a Fall Weekend Special, so it's likely to be a limited time offer.

The BMW 328i comes with the automaker’s  240hp Twin Power Turbo four-cylinder engine, with 255 pound feet of torque. Expect program cars to come with the eight-speed automatic transmission, which delivers 24 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway.

If you’re wondering why BMW is now in the rental car business, the best answer comes from Shaun Bugbee, vice president of sales and marketing at BMW Group Financial services.

Per Bugbee, “BMW On Demand USA provides consumers with a unique opportunity to experience the brand or spend a longer time behind the wheel than in the typical test drive.”

In other words, BMW is offering up luxury rentals in order to sell more cars, which makes perfect sense. Using BMW dealers as the intermediary allows renters to become accustomed to the level of service provided, likely adding to the argument to buy a BMW.

If you’re in New York (or if you’ll be traveling there in the near future), reservations can be made via a dedicated BMW On Demand USA website.––Paul Duchene
