A BMW had to finish tenth or better in the Street Tuner Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season finale at Lime Rock Park to secure the title for the marque. BimmerWorld’s James Clay and John Capestro-Dubets sealed the deal, finishing sixth in their 328i in the exciting 2.5-hour race, run in the rain on Friday afternoon.
Clay ran as high as second overall on his stint, while Capestro-Dubets spent the latter part of the race in fifth and sixth. Their 328i was the only BMW to finish in the top ten. Jesse Combs led early in the Race Epic/Murillo 330i that he shared with Jeff Mosing, but contact with a lapped car took him out of contention.
The overall win and the Street Tuner championship went to Pierre Kleinubing, who held off Andy Lally in a winner-take-all late race battle. Lally, driving a Kia Forte, finished on the tail of Kleinubing’s MazdaSpeed 3.
