Tom Coronel led from flag to flag in the ROAL Motorsport BMW 320 TC to win the second sprint at the Slovakia Ring, giving BMW its first World Touring Car Championship win of the season. Coronel, whose car ran new lighter carbon-fiber doors, had finished fifth in Race One. Gabriel Tarquini led a Honda sweep of the podium in that race; it was the new Honda team’s first WTCC win. Proteam BMW’s Mehdi Bennani finished tenth.
But Coronel motored away from the field in Race Two, distancing himself from a battle for second. That spot eventually went to Chevrolet’s Yvan Muller, with Race One-winner Tarquini finishing third. Bennani finished ninth, and Coronel’s teammate Darryl O’Young, whose car was rebuilt by the team after a massive crash in qualifying, finished tenth.
