The 2013 Consumer Electronics Show at Las Vegas marked a new development in BMW's driver information display. Premium global audio group Harmann launched a new infotainment system for BMW in the US. With upgradable software, it was shown inside a BMW 3 Series at the show.
Working with BMW, Harman introduced new features to the system which include a “birds-eye” view with realistic 3D city models and weather information. The display featured a high-resolution 1280×480 display, mated to a 1.3GHz processor to provide sharp clarity. Harman also created a human machine interface (HMI) that supports 3D menus, which is intended to reduce driver distractions.
Harmann has enabled the driver to access a number of networks such as Facebook, short emails, texts or voice memos by touch, as well as internet radio. This latest system will be available for 7 Series, 5 Series 3 Series vehicles.––Paul Duchene
