BMW Motorrad broke company records for motorcycle and scooter sales in 2012, paced by Husqvarna, which had a huge 15.7% gain. Overall, BMW motorcycle and scooter sales rose 2%.

The company announced that sales were highest in Germany, followed by the U.S. and France; it shipped more than 106,000 bikes, up from 104,000 in 2011. BMW's popular R1200GS was the biggest seller, with sales of more than 17,000 units in its final production year. Following that were the F800GS, with about 11,500 units, and the R1200GS Adventure, with 10,200.

Total Husqvarna sales rose from 9,286 units to 10,751. The most popular models were in the 250cc to 310cc range, many of those sold primarily for off-road use. Sales were also strong for the company's on-road Nuda 900 and Nuda 900R, and for the newly introduced dual-purpose TR650 Terra and TR650 Strada.
