BMW CEO of North America Ludwig Willisch announced at the Los Angeles Auto Show that the hybrid supercar BMW i8 is completely sold out for 2014. So if you haven't ordered yours yet, you're too late. The company has also reported firm orders for more than 10,000 i3s hybrid city cars in 2014.

BMW has managed to develop a successful “i” brand and the second model from it, the i8, is so popular that the entire lineup for the 2014 model year is spoken for. Wlilisch declined to say how many orders are involved in the total..

The BMW i8 wasoriginally unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, and is powered by a 1.5 liter three-cylinder TwinPower Turbo gasoline engine, generating 231bhp. The internal combustion unit is backed up by an electric motor, providing an extra 131 bhp. The total output produced is 362 bhp, enough for a 0 to 100 km/h sprint in 4.4 seconds. The total driving range stands at about 310 miles, and the average fuel consumption is 94 mpg US.—Paul Duchene
