After the Legends Of The Autobahn Concours on Friday, August 19, BMW fans at the BMW CCA Festorics banquet will hear from two experts on the cars that they have just seen—some legendary historic cars, and others modern M models that may still be attained by ordinary mortals. Karl Bäumer, head of BMW Group Classic, will be on hand to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the BMW 328 (the Legends concours features the first North American showing of the 328 Hommage concept, BMW’s tribute to the original).
Brian Watts, M GmbH’s general manager for sales and marketing, will speak, too—no doubt answering questions about the new M5. But Watts is more than just a marketing guy; at the Nürburgring 24-hour race this year, where BMW staged an M Fest in celebration of the line, fans were treated to music by Los Gringos—whose director, lead singer, and guitar player is none other than Brian Watts! (Alas, the other Gringos are apparently not on hand for a Monterey serenade!)
The Legends Of The Autobahn Concours will present an array of prewar BMWs, in addition to the 328 Hommage, but it’s only the start of the BMW CCA Festorics weekend. After the banquet on Friday, you’ll have the chance to watch some of the best historic car races anywhere from our corral overlooking Turn Five at Laguna Seca on Saturday and Sunday.
