Mini’s lineup continues to grow, and this test mule shot by Motor Trend indicates, the brand’s seventh model is just around the corner. Though it debuted at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show as the Paceman, word is the production version will instead be the Mini Countryman Coupe.
Many of the Paceman’s features look to have made it onto the production version. In front, the two-door compact crossover looks much like the standard Countryman, but everything from the A-pillar back appears to be unique. The rear doors have been removed, while the roofline is raked. The taillights on this mule look like those seen on the Paceman, with a rounder, wider shape than the standard Countryman.
The Mini Countryman Coupe will likely share drivetrain options with its four door sibling, including both naturally aspirated and turbocharged 1.6-liter I-4 engines, six-speed manual and automatic transmissions, and available all-wheel drive. ––Paul Duchene
