ProDrive plans to increase participation in both the US-based Global Rallycross program and to enter the new FIA World Rallycross Championship in 2014 with the Mini RX.

The news came as part of the announcement of the appointment of John Gaw as managing director of ProDrive Motorsport. ProDrive runs Aston Martin’s GT racing programs worldwide, and also designs and builds the Countryman-based Mini WRC.

The Mini RX rallycross car is based on the Mini WRC. Its 1.6-liter turbo motor has 50% more horsepower than the rally car, and the RX is lighter than the WRC. Full specs on the car are available here.
