The good news is that BMW has moved up since the first World Touring Car Championship weekend of the season in Monza; the bad news is that it’s still a long way to the podium.
ROAL Motorsport’s Tom Coronel finished sixth in the second race in Marrakech in his 320 TC; he had finished ninth in race one at Monza. BMW racer Franz Engstler finished eighth at Marrakech ahead of Darryl O’Young, who is Coronel’s teammate, and Charles Ng, who races for Engstler. Eighteen year-old Pepe Oriola won the race in his SEAT to become the youngest ever WTCC winner.
Michael Nykjaer won the first race at Marrakech in his Chevy Cruze. Coronel, in ninth, was the only BMW finisher in the top ten in that race. Engstler took out fellow BMW racer Stefano D’Aste on lap one. Engstler persevered for a time, but retired on lap ten with a puncture.
