The Motor Trend Best Driver's Car competition has really grown over the last few years since they started to produce it as a web-series for their YouTube channel. Their drag race videos, which have gone viral show some of the hottest sports cars on the market racing each other down a closed airport runway all at once. How cool is that?!

One of the main conditions of the Best Driver's Car competition is that each year's entrants are limited to high-performance vehicles that are either new or significantly updated for that year's competition. The cars also have to be currently available for sale, or in a manufacturer's fleet. Thus here are the vehicles in this year's competition, in alphabetical order: Alfa Romeo 4C, BMW i8, BMW M4, Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, Ford Fiesta ST, Jaguar F-Type R Coupe, Nissan GT-R Nismo, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Subaru STI, and Volkswagen GTI.

One of the tests for the cars is a timed hot lap around Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca by racing driver Randy Pobst. Watch as Randy laps the famed circuit in the all-new BMW M4 and i8:

The Best Driver's Car competition isn't just about lap times though! If it was, it would quickly become just a supercar comparison. So the Motor Trend team gets a 4 mile section of California backroad shut down so they can see how these cars handle on a real road.  The video below is the complete episode showing the cars being tested and how they went about picking what they did. If you don't want the results spoiled, watch the video below before reading any further!

Here is how the team at Motor Trend ended up ranking the cars:

10. Volkswagen Golf GTI
9. Jaguar F-Type R Coupe
8. BMW i8
7. Subaru WRX STI
6. Ford Fiesta ST
5. BMW M4
4. Nissan GT-R Nismo
3. Porsche 911 Turbo S

And the winner of the 2014 Motor Trend Best Driver's Car competition is the Chevrolet Camaro Z/28! You can read the entire article on the Motor Trend website.
