The all-new 2017 BMW 5 Series will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month, but we already know how much they will cost. BMW announced pricing for the four- and six-cylinder G30 sedans that will begin arriving in U.S. dealerships in February.

The 2017 BMW 530i will start at $51,200, while the xDrive version of the 530i has a base price of $53,500.  The 530i is powered by a two-liter, four-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo engine producing 252 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

Prices for the three-liter, six-cylinder 2017 BMW 540i will start at 56,450, while the 540i xDrive has an MSRP of $58,750. The 540i's engine has 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.

Add a $995 Destination and Handling fee to these prices to get the real base cost of the new 5 Series Sedans.

While the list of options and packages is lengthy, so is the list of standard equipment. All of the new 5s will come with Adaptive LED Headlights, Sport Seats, Active Protection, Fatigue and Focus Alert, 18-inch Double-Spoke Wheels, iDrive 6.0, and an Anthracite headliner.

More standard equipment includes the Sport leather steering wheel, runflat tires, Sport automatic transmission, alarm system, universal garage-door opener, moonroof, power front seats with lumbar support, ambiance lighting, LED foglights, navigation system, BMW Online and BMW Apps, and Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information.

Later in the spring of 2017, dealers will start receiving the athletic M550i xDrive and the economical BMW 530e iPerformance and 530e xDrive iPerformance plug-in hybrids. Pricing for those models will be announced closer to their market launch.

The new BMW 5 Series Sedans will be lighter than their predecessors with more connectivity, better fuel mileage, more driver assistance features and some semi-autonomous functions that we hope add to the safety and utility of the new 5 but still leaves us plenty of opportunity to enjoy a spirited car that handles and stops well while we're driving it ourselves.—Scott Blazey
