For the first time in four years, fans of Super Bowl commercials will get to see a BMW offering. On Sunday, February 1, during Super Bowl XLIX—or Super Bowl 49, for those who don't read or care about Roman numerals (which should be IL in any case; next year they'll probably make it Super Bowl XXXXX instead of Super Bowl L)—BMW will present a 60-second commercial featuring the BMW i3 electric car.

Even better, the ad will air during the first quarter, which is great in case the game turns into a snoozer later on.

“As one in three Americans will tune in to watch the Super Bowl, we are thrilled to use this platform to educate viewers on the importance of electric mobility,” said Trudy Hardy, Vice President of Marketing, BMW of North America. “Big ideas like the BMW i3 take a little getting used to, and the creative idea surrounding our spot will play on this analogy.”

The BMW i3 is the company’s groundbreaking vehicle that combines an electric motor with extensive use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic to create a light, strong, and sustainable solution to urban mobility problems.

The BMW i3 electric vehicle is available in the U.S. at a base price of $43,350, which includes the destination and handling fee. The BMW i3 with Range Extender, which adds a small gasoline motor to recharge the batteries and double the effective range, is available starting at $47,200, including destination and handling.—Scott Blazey
