BMW will continue its 100th-anniversary celebration next month at the 2016 Monterey Car Week. It will be the company's largest celebration of the year outside of Munich—and that's not counting the all of the events hosted by the BMW Car Club of America, such as Legends Of The Autobahn, the BMW CCA Festorics Corral at Laguna Seca, and the BMW CCA's Oktoberfest 2016 the following week.
In honor of the company’s centenary, BMW will be the featured marque at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Laguna Seca (that’s vintage racing); the Quail, A Motorsports Gathering (about as high end as a car show can get); and the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance (it doesn’t get any bigger than this).
The media will get a preview of BMW’s involvement at the BMW press conference on the afternoon of August 18th.
Perhaps the most exciting moment may come during the press conference when BMW unveils a world premiere concept car and also a “very special, freshly restored classic BMW.” The setting for the press conference and the special vehicle reveals will be BMW of North America’s Living Legends Garage at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. BMW NA is choosing a venue closer to the racing action rather than a static display. The new concept car will be joined by a number of BMW race cars that represent the company’s motorsport heritage. Many of them will also be competing in the vintage racing, so visitors get to see them at speed, in the wild as it were, not just behind a velvet rope.
After the press conference on Thursday, the concept and classic premiere cars will make appearances at Legends of the Autobahn, the Quail, and Pebble Beach. It is another great reason for BMW CCA members to sign up for Legends of the Autobahn.—Scott Blazey
