BMW News

Okay, here’s a paint job we have never seen before. Or anything even remotely like it.

Rene Turrek is a German graphic artist. We think he is also a fan of Marvel comics. The proof is the paint job he gave a BMW X6, and what he painted that’s hiding under what he also painted. Confused? Check out the video.

When splashed with hot water, the blue on this blue X6 disappears, revealing the Incredible You-Know Who. As the surface cools, the blue returns and the Hulk, we guess, becomes Bruce Banner again.

We have seen paint that changed color when exposed to hot water, but never paint that went from an intricate design to a single color, and back.

As seen in the video, we know that hot water initiates the change, but what we don’t know is whether only hot water can cause the change. For example, will the Hulk appear after the sun bakes the hood for a while? If temperature alone could cause the change, that might be good for advertising. Imagine a panel truck that when it’s cold outside, has a banner ad for parkas, but when it’s hot outside, the ad pushes swimsuits.

Let’s take this for what it really is—art. Perhaps not everyone’s favorite style, but Turrek does have talent and the morphing paint is one of the more creative and surprising car exteriors we’ve seen. Not likely to show up as an X6 factory option anytime soon, however. Not even from BMW Individual.—Scott Blazey
