This August, those who yearn for a classic Mini can build their own. Lego is adding the classic English Mini to its Creator Expert line. A 1,077-part Lego set will proved fans of the legendary Mini an authentic building experience.

The Lego Group based the new kit on the last version of the original Mini, which was sold up until the year 2000. When assembled, the Lego Mini will be 9.8 inches long, 5.5  inches wide, and 4.3 inches high—the same proportions as the original.

The body will be British Racing Green with white roof, body stripes, and mirror caps. Emblems on the rear side body panels will indicate that this Lego replica is based on the Mini Cooper produced from August 1997 to July 1998 to mark the 40th anniversary of the classic Mini.

When finished—if properly assembled—the doors, hood, and tailgate can be opened revealing a transversely mounted engine, moveable steering wheel, gearshift, handbrake handle, backrests, and headrests, and a fully packed picnic basket with a checkered blanket.

The recommended age for assembling the classic Mini Lego set is “16+.” We have no Lego experience so we’ll take their word for it. Judging by the photos, it looks like an awesome project.—Scott Blazey
