And we’re not in Kansas anymore
For the 2015 season, the Tudor United SportsCar Championship series will add a race at Lime Rock in July, but it will not return to either the Indianapolis Motor Speedway or Kansas Speedway.
While there are twelve events on the series’ 2015 calendar, no class will run more than ten races over the course of the season. Each of the TUSC classes is running eleven races this season.
Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series competitors will also run ten races; they are running twelve in 2014. All CTSCC races will be run on the same weekends as TUSC races.
The Lime Rock event will be run on July 24-25. TUSC Prototype Challenge and GTD classes will compete there, but the Prototype and GTLM classes will not. If the BMW teams run again in the same classes they are running this season, the Turner Motorsport GTD class Z4 would run at Lime Rock while the BMW Team RLL Z4s would not. The CTSCC cars, which ran at Lime Rock on Memorial Day Weekend in 2014, will hold their race in July on the same weekend as the TUSC cars.
IMSA president Doug Boles told The Indianapolis Star that the Friday-only format used for sports cars on the Brickyard 400 weekend for the past three years “does not work for either IMSA or the track.” Both Boles and IMSA President/COO Scott Atherton are optimistic that the series will return to Indy in the future.
