BMW made the podium in both the Touring Car and SprintX races on the Pirelli World Challenge series’ weekend at Utah Motorsports Campus.
Toby Grahovec piloted the Classic BMW Motorsports M235i Racing to third overall and third in class in both the Friday and Saturday Touring Car races. Max Fedler in the Summit of Everest Motorsports M235i Racing finished eighth on Friday and fourth on Saturday. Mazda MX-5 racers Adam Poland and John Weisberg won on Friday and Saturday, respectively. On Saturday, Weisberg and MX-5 racer Patrick Gallagher got by Grahovec for the lead on the final lap of Saturday's race.
In the SprintX races Michael Mills and Kuno Wittmer finished second on Saturday and third on Sunday. On Saturday, Wittmer held off Michael Lewis in the Porsche 911 GT3 that he shared with Preston Calvert until the last lap, when the Porsche driver found his way by for the win. On Saturday, Mills and Calvert ran the second stint. Mills spun as he tried to pass Calvert for the lead with about ten minutes remaining in the race. Calvert win on to win, while Mills fell to third behind the Audi R8 driven by Dion Von Moltke and David Ostella.
Grahovec retains the TC class lead going into the series finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in October. Official SprintX standings had not been updated at press time.—Brian S. Morgan
