Austin Mahone, whom Wikipedia tells us is a 20-something American pop singer and songwriter, has good taste in cars. He owns a BMW i8. He also seems to be a Marvel comics fan, especially the character of Iron Man, judging by the treatment he has given his i8.
It’s appropriate that with the immediate release of the latest Captain America movie that also features Iron Man and most of the other Avengers, the aftermarket wheel company Vossen has released photos of the car that has been done over in the colors of Iron Man’s suit.
MetroWrapz, a Miami, Florida car-wrapping firm, changed the i8’s outer skin to a satin red with gold accents on the side skirts and grille, and black highlights here and there. MR. Wheels lowered the coupe’s suspension.
Vossen finished the composition with special wheels created for this project. The gold Vossen Forged VPS-305t wheels are made in Miami as well and are shod with Pirelli tires. The 305t wheels are 22x9” in front and 22x10.5” in back.
Some will say that if BMW wanted to build a red i8, it would have built a red i8. Oh wait, BMW has built a red i8—Protonic Red, to be exact, but it’s not an Iron Man shade. In fact, the BMW i8's palette of Protonic Blue metallic, Sophisto Grey metallic, Ionic Silver metallic, Crystal White Pearl Metallic, Protonic Red, and even a special edition BMW Individual Frozen Grey Metallic are impressive colors but still a bit limited. The captivating and futuristic lines of the i8 are the perfect canvas for expressing different artistic themes and goals, of which Mahone’s Iron Man i8 is a fairly tasteful example.
We would have started with a Captain America theme, but that’s just us—and it doesn’t necessarily reflect which side of the Marvel civil war we’re on.—Scott Blazey
