The Allegheny Chapter kicked-off its 2015 annual gathering at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) by hosting a terrific club race field at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex (PittRace). The PVGP weekend featured the grand opening of the 1.2 mile South Track extension to the PittRace facility—the full circuit now extends a full 2.8 miles! Although some finishing touches remained to be completed, the racers all agreed that the full track with its fast turns and elevation changes made for a terrific drive. As always, the hospitality displayed by the Allegheny Chapter figured prominently in the weekend as the Chapter hosted a corral and hospitality tent in the center of the paddock. A big thank you goes out to all of the drivers and fans who came out!
2002 racer, John Wood of Dalton, MA gives a charity ride during the PittRace weekend.
One of the best parts of the PVGP happens this weekend when 180 race cars and over 2,000 show cars head to Schenley Park! There is still time to join us!
Online registration for the main event in Schenley Park will remain open through Wednesday at midnight. As always, walk-up registrations will also be accepted at the park, but lunches may sell out!
The Chapter has a nice turnout of “M” cars registered so far. If you have an “M” car of any year or model, the Chapter extends a special invitation to bring your car to this event! As always, all BMW’s of any model or year are welcome at the annual gathering.
Thursday, July 16
If you are in town on Thursday, July 16, join us at Pittsburgh’s Hofbrauhaus starting at about 7:00 pm. Nothing structured is planned, just a fun gathering spot on Thursday night!
Friday, July 17
This year’s Friday drive will head back to Franklin, PA. The drive promises to make for a great day, but unfortunately, due to space limitations in the restaurant and museums on the tour, the drive is SOLD OUT. Consider registering earlier next year!
The Chapter’s Friday evening welcome reception will take place at the LeMont, one of Pittsburgh’s finest restaurants. The restaurant sits high on a hill overlooking Pittsburgh’s three rivers. We are pleased that raconteur, humorist, and veteran correspondent of what he calls the International Motorsports Journalism Bidness, Satch Carlson, will be our guest speaker this year. To help raise funds for the PVGP charities, we will once again have a silent auction during the dinner. The evening promises to be a special treat!
Saturday/Sunday – July 18/19
Join us in the BMW CCA Corral with reserved trackside parking, catered lunches and hospitality tent. We are happy to welcome the Hofbrauhaus as a sponsor this year! Watch the vintage racing through the streets of Schenley Park within 250 feet of our tent! Check out more than 2,000 show cars! Don't miss the opportunity for "quick" tour the race course with BMW Performance Center driver Mike Renner at the wheel. Charity rides are a thrilling experience and the proceeds benefit a great cause! Nothing else in the country compares with the Schenley Park experience!
