Last month, the BMW Group sold more BMWs, Minis, and Rolls-Royces worldwide than in any previous July in its history. A total of 173,195 vehicles were delivered, which brought the global year-to-date total for the group to 1,272,953 units—a record for the first seven months of any year.
“Despite the volatility we are seeing on some markets, the BMW Group continues to show steady sales growth around the world,” said Ian Robertson, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Sales and Marketing BMW. “With our outstanding brands, we are seeing strong momentum in Europe and buoyant markets in the NAFTA region and much of Asia, so I remain confident that the positive sales development we have achieved so far this year will continue through the rest of 2015.”
BMW sales so far this year totaled 1,079,563, of which 147,513 came in July. The year-to-date figure for BMW represents a 5.2 percent increase over the same period in 2014.
BMW 1 Series sales were up 5.6 percent over July last year, while the BMW X5 experienced a 32.7 percent increase in sales. X6 deliveries rose by an impressive 71.5 percent.
BMW sold 2,221 BMW i vehicles in July, a jump of 79.4 percent over last year.
Worldwide Mini sales totaled 25,416 units in July, while the year-to-date total of 191,355 represented a rise of 22.5 percent over the first seven months of 2014.
BMW retained its lead in the U.S. premium vehicle segment. U.S. sales of BMWs through the first seven months of 2015 rose to 195,593 vehicles delivered. Mercedes-Benz stands in second place at 192,496 units through the end of July. Lexus trails Mercedes with a total of 188,664.—Scott Blazey
