Though BMW Team RLL and Turner Motorsport received their BMW M6 GTLM and GT3s at the end of of 2015 and have already completed a 24 hour race, worldwide BMW Sport Trophy teams are just now getting their hands on the new BMW flagship race car.
Many BMW teams have had plenty to be pleased about over the past week, as they received their new BMW M6 GT3s. In Schubert Motorsport, ROWE Racing, Walkenhorst Motorsport, BMW Sports Trophy Team Studie, Team Alnex, BMW Team SRM and Boutsen Ginion Racing, seven BMW customer racing teams can now work on their new cars for the coming GT season in their own workshops.
This was a particularly special moment for Australian outfit BMW Team SRM, as team principal Steven Richards’ team returns to the Australian GT Championship in March after a 20-year absence. The other teams must wait a little longer for their first races.
Schubert Motorsport, ROWE Racing and Walkenhorst Motorsport are preparing meticulously for their starts in the VLN and at the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring. The first race on the Nordschleife takes place on April 2. For ROWE Racing and Boutsen Ginion Racing, the Blancpain GT Series season gets underway in Misano April 8–10. One week later, Schubert Motorsport takes to the track in Oschersleben for the first round of the ADAC GT Masters. BMW Sports Trophy Team Studie and Team Alnex will contest the first race of the season in the Japanese GT Championship in Okayama on April 9–10.
With the first outing of the M6 GT3 fairly successful for Turner Motorsport, we hope that the other BMW Sports Trophy teams will have a similarly smooth transition into the new race car.—Nate Risch
