BMW News

The BMW i3, BMW's first production car designed from the ground up as an electric vehicle, and the BMW i8, BMW's groundbreaking plug-in-hybrid sports car, represent the first new company division—BMW i—since BMW M GmbH was established. These i-cars were unlike anything that BMW had made before, and required new materials—and new methods of putting those materials together.

If you’ve ever wondered what the i3 looks like without its clothes on—that is, underneath its hood, doors, and body panels, this video will show you.

Here is the same kind of look at the BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sports car, only it’s better—because there’s more driving.

This introductory video to BMW i and the company’s vision for green mobility has a couple of things going for it. Despite it being very artsy, which seems to be a BMW hallmark these days, the photography is compelling. It also features BMW’s two i cars—the i3 and i8. We might be biased, but anything that shows a BMW i8 in motion is worth a minute or two of our time.

According to BMW CEO Harald Krüger, the first two i cars will be joined by a third—probably a sedan—in the next few years. We expect there will be some similarities underneath to the first two i cars, but it will have an exciting new body and possibly, even more advances in the powertrain..—Scott Blazey
