What could be better than flying to Munich to take European delivery of your new M3 or M4? How about taking European delivery of your new M3 or M4 along with fifteen friends and their guests, and driving them all over Europe?
That’s exactly what BMW Canada arranged for a group of new BMW M car owners earlier this year. In fact, this was the third year that BMW Canada put together its BMW M European Tour, according to Kevin Marcotte, BMW Canada’s Marketing Director.
The fifteen new BMW owners and their guests first received the welcome treatment in Munich and went on a tour of BMW’s Munich factory. Next, they drove BMW M3s and M4s at the BMW Driving Experience, where they learned car control on the Driving Experience course in both wet and dry conditions.
Finally, it was off to the BMW Welt’s delivery center where they saw their own new BMWs for the first time. Each new owner received a personalized hour-and-a-half introduction and explanation of their M3 or M4 and its features.
That would have been the point at which, during a normal European delivery, the new BMW owners would have been sent merrily on their way to drive the German, Austrian, Swiss, French, or Italian roads wherever and however they wished. But on the BMW Canada BMW M European Tour, the group had some pleasant surprises in store.
For the next six days after taking delivery, as guests of BMW Canada, the group traveled 715 miles through six countries in six days, including through the Alps and, of course, on the Autobahn. They spent each night in a great hotel. The first stop, for example, was the five-star Interalpen Hotel in Seefeld, Austria. On subsequent days, the group headed through the Swiss Alps to the Italian coast, then a drive through France and ending up in Monte Carlo in Monaco. Some of the tour members then drove on to other destinations in Europe, such as the Nürburgring, but eventually all dropped off their new M3s and M4s with BMW, which shipped them to Canada where they were reunited with their owners at various BMW dealers.
One owner succinctly expressed the feelings of the group, saying, “This was pretty well over the top.”
BMW Canada was rightfully proud enough of the project they made a video. Enjoy.—Scott Blazey
