BMW News

The all-new G30 BMW 5 Series was launched earlier this month at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and by now, we've seen plenty of pictures. However, most of us haven't seen the car in person, which means we also haven't seen the new 5 side-by-side with its immediate predecessor so we can see both the obvious and the subtle differences between the two. But BMW has taken care of that for us with their latest 5 Series video.

In this video, BMW describes and visually presents the changes in the exterior, interior, and lighting between the sixth- and seventh-generation 5 Series Sedans. Given that the new 5 belongs to a well-established model series, the overall design of the inside and outside of the car is evolutionary rather than revolutionary. What is not merely an evolution from the previous 5 is the technology, which includes things like Gesture Control, Remote Control Parking, and semi-autonomous driving functions.

Here is BMW's guided tour of the newest 5 Series versus the next oldest.

Speaking of old 5 Series, BMW slowly has been feeding us historical videos on the development of earlier generations of its mid-size standard bearer. Here is the video on what many enthusiasts believe to be the best 5 Series of all time, the E39.

The E34 was the third-generation of the 5 Series and by the time it left production in 1995, it had become what many owners considered in its six-cylinder version to be one of the most reliable 5 Series that BMW ever built.

We've presented before the BMW films of the first two generations of 5 Series—the E12 and E28—but here they are again, just because we like looking at them.

This is the E28 video:
