BMW NA factory driver Kuno Wittmer will join Michael Mills in the Mills Racing Z4 GT3 in the new Pirelli World Challenge Sprint-X Series.
Wittmer, who is a co-driver of the #100 Team RLL M6 GTLM in the IMSA WeatherTech Series endurance races this year, was the IMSA GTLM champion in 2014, when he drove a Viper.
Mills, the 2014 Pirelli World Challenge GTA champion, finished second and third in the GTA class in the Z4 in two sprint races at the season opener this year at Circuit of the Americas. Now, with support from BMW NA, Mills Racing will focus on Sprint-X for the balance of the season.
The Sprint-X series will run two 60-minute races on each of three race weekends. The races will require both a driver change and a tire change. The series represents a departure from PWC’s traditional non-stop sprint race format.
The first races will be run at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park on May 21-22. After that the series will run at Utah Motorsports Campus (formerly Miller Motorsports Park) on August 12-14, and will finish its season at the PWC season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on October 7-9.—Brian S. Morgan
