Marco Wittmann and Timo Glock won the two DTM races run on the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, Austria, on May 21-22.
Wittmann started his BMW Team RMG M4 DTM from the pole position on Saturday and led the entire race. BMW Team RBM’s Tom Blomqvist finished second. Four more BMW racers finished in the points; Timo Glock (Team RMG) was fourth, Martin Tomczyk (Team Schnitzer) was fifth, Maxime Martin (Team RMG) was sixth, and Augusto Farfus (Team MTEK) was ninth.
Glock started third on the grid on Sunday; he quickly assumed the lead and held on to secure the second win of the weekend for both BMW and Team RMG. Audi’s Mattias Ekstrom finished second, 2.215 seconds behind Glock. Five more BMWs finished in the points: Farfus was fourth, Martin was fifth, and Blomqvist was sixth. Saturday winner Marco Wittmann finished seventh and Team MTEK’s Bruno Spengler finished ninth.
Team RMG principal Stefan Reinhold said, “I am speechless. Yesterday I was at the top of the podium with Marco, today with Timo. We haven't ever had a weekend like this. I am just so happy. We worked hard with both drivers over the winter, and now all of this work is paying off. I can only say a massive thanks to both of them. Marco's win on Saturday was incredible, and I am really happy to have won a race with Timo now. After all, we have known each other for such a long time. Spielberg was a dream for us.”
