BMW has established itself as a leader in premium electrified automotive mobility with electric vehicles like the BMW i3 and plug-in hybrids such as the BMW i8 and X540e, and Tesla has become the benchmark for long-range pure-electric travel, with both companies using large, heavy lithium-ion battery packs. Meanwhile, the motoring public has wondered, "Where is Mercedes?"
With it’s B-Class electric car, Mercedes-Benz has shown that it can also make electric people movers, but it hasn’t been able to establish the public awareness and name recognition earned by BMW i and Tesla.
Until now.
As this video shows, Mercedes-Benz has developed a car propelled by battery technology that you can find in your own home every day. We feel safe in saying that no other car company is prepared to field a vehicle like the new Mercedes-Benz AA Class.
Watch and enjoy.
Of course, this extraordinarily well-done spoof comes from the comic geniuses at Saturday Night Live. It’s so good that we would probably laugh even if the car company being mocked was BMW instead of its next-door German neighbor, Mercedes-Benz.—Scott Blazey
