MS Amlin Andretti racer Robin Frijns finished eleventh in the Formula E race at Marrakech. His teammate, BMW works driver António Félix da Costa, was unable to finish.
The two racers started on the fifth row of the grid on the Marrakech street circuit. Félix da Costa was running in the points, challenging for a position in the top six, when his ATEC-002 stopped on course. He was able to restart and continue, but he had to come in on lap 12 of the 33-lap race to change cars (the racers in the all-electric Formula E series change cars on their pit stops.). The early stop meant that Félix da Costa did not have enough energy to finish the race. He tried to score the one point available for fastest lap, but was unable to do so.
Frijns pitted from twelfth for his car change on lap eighteen. He moved up to eleventh, but was unable to break into the top ten.
The win went to Renault e.dams’ Sebastien Buemi, who had also won the season opener in Hong Kong.
The Marrakech race was the second in the season and the second in BMW’s new partnership with the Amlin-Andretti team. The series now takes a break; it runs again in Buenos Aires on February 18.—Brian S. Morgan
