By the time the new BMW X7 arrives sometime in 2019, spy photos of BMW testing the new flagship Sports Activity Vehicle will be commonplace; but right now, they are still new and exciting. Take these shots of the X7 prototype undergoing winter testing in Sweden recently.
Although heavily camouflaged with the black and white swirlies and fake body panels attached with sheet metal screws, the big X vehicle's profile is still evident. Yes, it's the X5's larger sibling, all right.
The X7 will be large enough for an optional third-row seat that will be roomier and easier to get into than the one available on the X5. Or for maximum comfort, roominess, and luxury, BMW is reported to be planning a super-luxurious four-seat model.
What is not yet obvious is whether BMW will alter the front fascia of the X7 to offer a more distinctive look that will easily differentiate it from the X5. Too often in the past, BMW has tended toward similar looks among different series to the extent that it's hard to tell a 5 from 7 from a distance, for example.
The X7 will be built at BMW Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina.
