The Boston Chapter BMW CCA are hosting an event where Brian Redman will speak about the particularly deadly decade of 1965–1975, when the odds of a top competitor being killed in his race car were one-in-three. Brian is among the survivors of those dangerous years but only after horrendous accidents that left him with pins in his arm, burn scars on his face, and head trauma that drove him into months of depression. Yet, he set aside his fears and returned to race for 40 years, winning championships in the world’s fastest cars on the world’s most dangerous tracks against the world’s finest drivers. Brian's stories are sometimes funny and often poignant but always deeply personal.
BMW aficionados will learn the inside story of teaming with Peter Gregg when they won the 1976 24 Hours of Daytona. Of particular interest will be the Brian’s actual Daytona 24 hour winning BMW #59 CSL he shared with Peter Gregg and John Fitzpatrick in 1976, which will also be on display at the event and available for photos. Porsche enthusiasts will hear how Brian tested and tamed the legendary 917, the fastest car of its era.
Brian will be available to sign his recent book Daring Drivers and Deadly Tracks packed with fabulous photos and recipient of the Royal Automobile Club Book of the Year award. This memoir, written with fellow racer Jim Mullen (founder of Mullen Communications) is on track to be the record best-selling driver biography/memoir ever. Copies will be available for purchase and credit cards are accepted.
The Redman talk will be hosted on Sunday, April 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at the German Club located at 8 Country St. (Rt. 109W) Walpole, MA 02081. Directions will be available on the Chapter website. A $20.00 entrance fee is payable to the Boston Chapter's PayPal account via the website at www.boston-bmwcca.org. Food will be plentiful and included in the ticket price. Drinks will be available at a cash bar.
