First of all, congratulations to the driver of this BMW race car who expertly jinked at mid-turn-in to avoid creating a stain on the Nürburgring's Nordschleife recently. The "Green Hell" almost became the Green Hell with a small splotch of red when an adventurous squirrel chose the wrong moment to attempt a cross-track sprint.
There was speculation as to whether the squirrel was attempting a "Jackass" stunt to impress his fellow small woodland mammals hiding behind the Armco, or was actually in the employ of an opposition Porsche or Mercedes-Benz racing team at the time.
Regardless of the motivation, we're happy to see the BMW, the BMW's driver, and the rodent survive the incident unscathed.
After seeing this footage, it's probably safe to say that humans are not the only species that refer to the Nürburgring’s Nordschleife as one of the most dangerous tracks in the world.—Scott Blazey
