Bruno Spengler, Tom Blomqvist, and Nick Catsburg finished tenth in the 24 Hours of Spa in the #98 Rowe Racing M6 GT3. The #98 M6 was running in the top five early on Sunday morning in a race plagued by accidents, caution periods, and rain, and went on to lead for a time. But a technical problem with 4½ hours remaining sent them into the pits for a long stop and took them out of contention.
Their teammates Maxime Martin, Philipp Eng, and Alexander Sims, who won the race in 2016, were set back by a loose wheel early in the race. The car eventually retired with another technical problem.
Bruno Spengler said, “That was a brilliant battle until this morning. The car performed fantastically during the night and in the early hours of the morning in particular, and the team did a great job with the strategy. That was how we moved so far through the field. We could have made it onto the podium with our performance today. After starting from 42nd on the grid – who would have thought that yesterday? Then it all changed unfortunately. A defect cost us a lot of time. It’s a little bit sad since we all fought so hard.”
The overall win went to Christopher Haase, Markus Winkelhock and Jules Gounon in the #25 Audi R8 LMS.—Brian S. Morgan
