To celebrate the launch of the 2018 BMW M5, BMW has created a very special limited edition vehicle that matches the new M5 in many respects but costs much less. It is, however, an even more exclusive vehicle than BMW's long-awaited new apex predator M5. The limited special edition vehicle is the BMW M Bike Limited Carbon Edition and even as BMW bicycles go, this one is beautiful.
As in the new M5, the M Bike Limited Carbon Edition is made with lightweight materials. The frame is hydro-formed aluminum. The fork, seat posts, and spacers are carbon fiber.
If the lighter, stronger carbon-fiber parts don't set this bike apart enough already, the exclusive Marina Bay Blue Metallic paint job will. It's the same finish that is available on BMW's newest M5, which would make it the perfect accessory for a new M5 owner. The only problem is that BMW will not produce nearly as many M Bike Limited Carbon Editions as it will the 2018 BMW M5. Only 500 of the special edition bicycles will be produced, and these will be available only from select BMW dealers.
To further set apart this low-number, high-profile machine, each will be affixed with a "Limited Carbon Edition" badge and will come with its own certificate.
This bicycle doesn't have as many moving parts as a car, but the parts it does have are choice, including 28 x 2.0 Continental CruiseCONTACT "safety system" tires and hydraulic Shimano BR-M315 disk brakes.
BMW's press release announcing the BMW M Bike Limited Carbon Edition did not specify if this special two-wheeler would be available in the U.S., but it did list the manufacturer’s recommended retail price in Euros, if that's any indication. The price is €1.400, or about $1,673.—Scott Blazey
