Starting next March, Mini buyers will be able to add a set of Recaro seats to the option list for their new car. The upmarket buckets will be available for all Mini models except the Countryman and Convertible.
But they don't come cheap - a hefty $3,000 for the better seats. The Recaros also only come in black leather and Dinamica and only with with built-in heaters. It'll be interesting to see how many cars are delivered to dealer stock with that option checked off, and how many are actually ordered by customers with their new car. The Mini market is under pressure at present with the arrival (finally) of the Fiat 500, and the last thing any Mini needs now is $3,000 added to its sticker.
I suspect the seats will probably be limited to a few Cooper S and JCW drivers who check every box on the options list. They'll probably be rare, and one of those items that ices a used car sale later. —Paul Duchene
