BMW News

When the original BMW X6 first appeared, some BMW fans were troubled by its unorthodox looks, and concerned because it showed that BMW was still on the divergent paths of building sports-activity and crossover vehicles in addition to traditional luxury-performance cars.

The next-generation X6 is now imminent, and even though BMW will use lightweight aluminum and carbon-fiber-reinforced-plastic to trim its weight, there is still no question that it is a large vehicle. However, there is also no question that despite its bulk, it is definitely a luxury-performance vehicle. And as far as X6 performance is concerned, you’re about to see more.

Spotted by Touriclips hustling around the Nürburgring is what appears to be an F86 BMW X6 M. It’s fast, it obviously has grip, and we’re still trying to find some evidence of body roll.

The M version of the X6 will have xDrive, of course. Power could be in excess of 500 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, delivered through a seven-speed dual-clutch (DCT) transmission. Even at two-and-half tons, the X6 M could have a zero-to-60 time fairly close to four seconds.

Now that the X6 has been joined by its smaller sibling, the X4, BMW Sport Activity Coupes may become more accepted, especially a version that will perform like the X6 M probably will. If you don’t like the looks, don’t worry. With this kind of performance, it will probably drive out of view pretty quickly.—Scott Blazey
